Groups planning more than one diving day, or wanting to reach southern Komodo sites that are a long run from Labuan Bajo, generally move to the 3-day Komodo liveaboard instead, because sleeping on board removes the daily harbour transit and opens tidal windows a day boat cannot reach. How far in advance should a club book a charter?
Peak dry-season dates in Labuan Bajo are taken early because the number of suitable day boats is finite, so clubs travelling then usually hold a vessel several months ahead. Outside those months, shorter lead times are often workable. Send your dates before you book flights and we will tell you honestly what is still available rather than taking a deposit on a hope.
Can our own instructor lead the dives?
Yes, and many clubs prefer it. In that case we supply the vessel, crew, tanks, and a local guide who knows the sites and the tidal behaviour, while your instructor runs your people. The local guide still briefs the site and still makes the call on whether Batu Bolong is diveable that day, because site-specific judgement is what they are on board for.
Is a charter cheaper per person than booking seats?
Not usually at small group sizes, and often comparable once a group is large enough to fill the boat. What a charter buys is control over timing and site order, which at a tide-dependent site like Batu Bolong is worth more than a per-head saving. What happens if part of our group cancels?
The charter price is per boat per day, so losing a few divers does not reduce the vessel cost, though per-person items such as rental gear and park fees do fall away.
